Continuing on the topic of birds who like salmon, the common merganser loves them too! But first let me say I am not in favour of the naming protocol for anything that starts with ‘common’. This is a lovely bird and there is nothing common about it.
This is not a large bird compared to an eagle or an osprey. Probably 12 – 18″ in length. Thank heavens the Kokanee are not big salmon. I started photographing them a few years ago and finally got the ultimate shots this past spring.
But they are charming all the time as you can see in this shot.
