Just a quick note about life in the marsh. I went over yesterday to see how my pied-billed grebe was doing. I had spotted it a few days earlier. Well, while there I saw a few special moments. The first was the courtship of the common goldeneye. I have never seen this ‘dance’ and it was delightful. Although the females didn’t seem that interested.
Then I spotted my grebe, and then another. I believe they engaged in courting as well, twirling around in a circle with their beaks together . Of course they didn’t ask if the light was alright, which it wasn’t but here is a photo of them.
