Not What It’s Quacked up to be!

Pardon the pun (you’ll understand in a minute), but the other day I was watching the ducks in the marsh. Some were courting, some sunning and a few were being territorial. Very territorial!

A pair of mallards were floating along when another male must have encroached on their personal space. They cut to the chase without any discussion and proceeded to make their, actually the male’s, displeasure known to the newcomer.

I have never seen such aggression displayed by such a normally placid duck. Of course, you will notice that the female seemed indifferent to the proceedings.

This gets a bit ugly but no ducks were injured in the shooting of this sequence..

Even the intruder’s escape wasn’t fast enough!

One more attack….

He’s on his way out….

And note the female throughout all of this…
