Today’s poetry assignment was to write a ballad about a hero or heroine of mine. Using anaphora and/or epistrophe. Look them up.
So here is my heroine, fictional. Do you know who she is?
She was a lady of leisure
Dressed in satin and delicate lace.
Made for salons and dry conversation
In a world too dull and slow paced.
She was a lady of leisure
Dressed in pants and a shirt with no lace
With a sash boldly wrapped at her waistline
Off to sea with a dream did she race.
She was a lady of leisure
Strode the deck of a strong and fast ship
With legs braced as it slipped from the cove
With a sword hanging close at her hip.
She was a lady of leisure
Now at sea with a pirate so fine
Charting their passage together
Cloud covering deadly moonshine.
She was a lady of leisure
Out of place in a quieter time
Striving to live her adventure.
She was a heroine of mine.
Dona, Lady St. Columb, the heroine in Frenchman’s Creek, by Daphne DuMaurier (1941).

Thank you. It actually took a couple of hours of mulling certain phrases to get the ballad going.

Thank you. For adventure and dreams fiction I think offers the greatest heroes and heroines.
